Meet Mariya Toncheva
Mariya grew up in Bulgaria, in a beautiful city on the Black Sea coast. She started playing tennis when she was 7, and since her first junior tournament, she has fallen in love with the sport. She is an accomplished former competitor, having played national tournaments in her country of origin, international ITF, and WTA tournaments until she was offered a full athletic scholarship from Eastern Michigan University (USA), NCCA Division I, where she represented the women’s tennis team for four years.
Coach Mariya is nationally certified and a member in good standing of the Tennis Professional Association of Canada, the internationally recognized Professional Tennis Registry (PTR), and the Bulgarian Tennis Federation.
Coaching History
Her coaching career started over a decade ago as a Head Coach Junior and Adult Program at Dinevi Resort, Saint Vlas, Bulgaria. She was an assistant coach at Dimitar Tennis Academy, where she has been working closely with international tennis players (Santa Barbara, CA). She conducted the junior clinics at Mulholland Tennis Club, Los Angeles, CA, and kids’ and adults’ beginner classes in Beverly Hills Tennis Centre. After relocating to Ottawa, Canada, she worked at Ottawa Athletic Club for Noble Tennis School and coached competitive juniors at The "Challengers" Tennis Academies. At the moment she is running Junior and Adult Programs at Carleton Tennis Centre and Elmdale Tennis Club.
